Structural Design and Load-Bearing System

Flat-bottom steel silos are designed with high safety factors, considering vertical loads, dynamic loads, wind loads, and snow loads.

Vertical Stiffener Supports

Vertical stiffeners mounted on the silo shell efficiently transfer vertical loads and grain pressure to the foundation, improving shell stability.

High-Quality Fasteners

For maximum strength at all MAFAL silo joints, bolts with 10.9 grade Cr+3 White passivation + Lac coating are used.

Sealing Solutions

Special sealing elements are applied at body sheets and roof joints for airtightness and water tightness, minimizing product loss and moisture ingress.

Accessibility, Safety, and Roof Design

In flat-bottom steel silo design, not only product safety but also safe and ergonomic access for maintenance teams is prioritized.

Doors and Access Points

All MAFAL silos include a secure access door on the second tier that is easy to open/close. Round doors are used for smaller diameters/capacities, while rectangular doors are used for larger diameters/high capacities. When the fill level exceeds the door, access into the silo is provided via the roof inspection hatch.

Internal & External Ladders

An internal ladder enables entry into the silo; an external ladder with a safety cage and rest platforms provides access to the inspection hatch. On the roof, a safe roof ladder with double handrails extends from the eaves level to the apex.

High-Strength Roof System

MAFAL silo roofs are designed to carry loads from top handling equipment, snow and wind loads, and the weight of temperature cables. A 30° roof slope supports optimum filling. For large-diameter silos, truss-form roofs built with special section profiles further improve durability and service life.

Temperature Control System and PLC Integration

The temperature control system protects product quality by early detection of hot areas and insect activity, reducing reloading and sampling costs.
